Anhui University of Science and Technology

The school was founded in 1945 and shares the same roots and heritage with Hefei University of Technology. It is the first engineering university in Anhui Province. In 1955, the school was upgraded from Huainan Coal Mining Industrial College to Hefei Mining Institute. In 1956, it moved to Hefei. In 1958, it was renamed Hefei University of Technology. In 1971, related disciplines and some basic course teachers related to coal were transferred to Huainan in an entire establishment, and the Huainan Coal Institute was established. Subsequently, it went through periods of Huainan Mining Institute, Huainan Industrial College, etc. During this time, the original East China Coal Medical College and Huainan Chemical Engineering School were successively merged. In 2002, the school was renamed Anhui University of Science and Technology. In 2020, the first People's Hospital of Huainan City was transferred in an entire establishment and became the first affiliated hospital. In 2022, Anhui Automobile Industry School (Anhui Automobile Application Technician College) was transferred in an entire establishment, and in 2024, a Hefei campus was established. The school focuses on the needs of the economy and society, conducts organized scientific research and technical service work, and initiates the establishment of the "Coal Safety Intelligent Precise Mining Collaborative Innovation Organization" in the coal industry. Since the "13th Five-Year Plan", it has undertaken over 2,300 various scientific research projects, including more than 350 national-level projects such as major scientific research instrument development, deep underground national science and technology major projects, national key research and development plans, strategic research and consultation projects of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, science and technology base and talent plans of the Ministry of Science and Technology, national natural science foundation projects, and national social science foundation projects. The annual average research funds received are 220 million yuan. It has led to more than 150 provincial and ministerial-level scientific and technological achievements awards, including 38 provincial and ministerial-level first prizes, one national innovation award certificate, one China Patent Award, four Anhui Innovation and Leading Award, and one Anhui Patent Gold Award. It has also obtained more than 2,400 valid domestic and international invention patents. The school's national key laboratory has been awarded the title of "National Advanced Collective of Professional Talents". The school has 50 national and provincial-level research and innovation platforms, including the National Key Laboratory for Deep Coal Safety Mining and Environmental Protection, the National Key Laboratory for Intelligent Technology of Coal Unmanned Mining, the National Local Joint Engineering Research Center for Coal Safety Precise Mining, the National Innovation Talent Training Base, the Provincial and Ministerial Collaborative Innovation Center for Intelligent Technology and Equipment in Mining, and the Ministry of Education Key Laboratory for Prevention of Industrial Dust and Occupational Safety and Health. The school adheres to an open educational approach and has established strategic partnerships with over 150 entities including local governments, large state-owned enterprises, and renowned universities. It has successively established the Institute of Environment-Friendly Materials and Occupational Health (Wuhu), the Engineering Research Institute of Energy Revolution (Jincheng), and the High-End Research Institute (Hefei), among others. It actively integrates into the Comprehensive National Science Center of Hefei, taking the lead in the construction of the Coal Clean and Efficient Utilization Research Center of the Energy Research Institute and the Deep Earth Research Center, jointly building the Joint Research Center for Occupational Medicine and Health of the Big Health Institute, the Collaborative Innovation Center for Ecological Protection and Restoration of the Huai River Basin Coal Mining Area of the Environmental Research Institute, and participating in the construction of the Artificial Intelligence Research Institute. The school has been continuously expanding its international cooperation and exchanges. It has established long-term and stable international partnerships with over 70 universities and research institutions in countries such as the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Australia, Russia, Poland, Ukraine, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, and Malaysia. There are also international students from 32 countries studying for doctoral and master's degrees at the school.
