Nanjing University of the Arts (Nanjing University of the Arts for short), located in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province, is a university jointly built by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the People's Republic of China and the People's Government of Jiangsu Province. It is the only comprehensive art university in Jiangsu Province. It is also the earliest independent institution of higher art in China and continues to this day, the first of the six major art colleges in China, and the comprehensive strength of art disciplines ranks first in the country. In 1912, Mr. Liu Haisu, the founder of Chinese art education, founded Shanghai Picture Art Academy with his friends. In 1922, Mr. Yan Wenliang founded Suzhou Art Academy in Suzhou. In 1952, in the adjustment of the national colleges and universities, the two departments of fine arts and music of Shandong University were merged in Wuxi Sheqiao, Jiangsu Province, to become East China Art College. 1958 East China Art College moved to Dingjiaqiao, Nanjing; In June of the same year, it was renamed Nanjing Art College; In 1959, it was renamed Nanjing University of the Arts, and in 1967, it was relocated to 15 Huju North Road, Nanjing. In 1978, it was approved as one of the first institutions of higher learning to enroll master's students in China, and in 1986, it was granted the right to confer doctoral degrees. As of November 2022, the school is located in the main urban area of Nanjing, covering an area of more than 700 mu and a building area of 300,000 square meters. It has 14 secondary colleges and 41 undergraduate majors. The total number of students is more than 12,000; There are more than 1140 faculty members; It has 5 post-doctoral research mobile stations, 5 first-level doctoral degree authorization points, and 5 first-level master degree authorization points.
