In 1958, Yunnan University was transferred to Yunnan Province by the Central Ministry of Higher Education. In 1978, Yunnan University was designated as one of the 88 national key universities by The State Council. In 1996, it was listed in the first batch of national "211 Project" key construction universities. In 1999, Yunnan College of Political Science and Law merged into Yunnan University. As of June 2023, the University has two campuses, Chenggong and Donglu, covering an area of 4,367 mu, with a floor area of 1.33 million square meters and a collection of more than 4 million books. It has 28 colleges and 84 undergraduate programs.
